I was honoured to take part in the recent Global Alternative Investing Summit, organised by The Opal Group and kindly hosted by Macfarlanes. It was a privilege to join Harvey Cammell (Deputy Chairman & Global Director of Valuations, Bonhams), Marina Ruiz-Colomer (Head of Post-War and Contemporary Art, Bonhams), and Amayes Aouli (Global Head of Wine and Spirits, Bonhams) on a fascinating panel, expertly moderated by Marco Soriano (Chairman & CEO, The Soriano Family Office).
Our discussion explored a range of thought-provoking themes — from Passion vs. Profit and Preservation vs. Speculation to the question of how Prestige and Exclusivity can sit comfortably alongside Ethics. The conversation was rich and nuanced, with each of us bringing a different perspective on the evolving role of integrity within alternative asset markets.
For my part, I was struck by how aligned we all were on the need for transparency, responsibility, and a longer-term view — values that are becoming increasingly important to discerning collectors and investors.
I left the session inspired by the dialogue and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful exchange about the future of value, culture, and stewardship in our fields.
